Autodarts is a FREE to play Darts scoring software.

You can play locally, online vs real people, training games, and take part in online tournaments across the world.

If you’ve ever wanted to play darts online with real opponents using your own dartboard at home, Autodarts makes it possible - and it's completely free.

The Autodarts scoring system uses cameras and detection software to automatically track your throws, your stats, and connect you with players around the world.

In this post, we’ll break down what Autodarts is, how it works, what equipment you need, and how to get started for a fraction of the cost of commercial systems like Scolia or DartCounter.

What Is Autodarts?

You've probably heard of Scolia (€750 plus €11.95 per month) and Dart Counter (Target Omni) (£500 plus £5 per month) where you can track your throws using cameras, providing detailed statistics to improve your game, and allowing you to play against others online or in tournaments.

Well Autodarts offers all of the same functionality with no monthly subscription - but the most important part is that you don't need specialist equipment. You can DIY your set up.

So what do you need?

Technically, just 3 cameras that connect to the Autodarts software. But the accuracy of your set up depends on which cameras you use, positioning, equipment, etc.

What's the minimum set up needed?

We only recommend set ups that can give an accuracy of around 99%. But the minimum set up to get you going:

Your existing dartboard and surround
Target Corona Vision light ring (£65)
Dart3D Target Corona Ring Mounts (£60)
Your existing PC/Laptop

This is the absolute minimum you need to get started, and it costs as little as £125 with no ongoing monthly payment!

Example Set Up

Dart3D cameras installed around the dartboard at 120° angles, the camera cables run behind the board and into a nearby Windows, Mac or Linux device. This device runs the Autodarts detection software.

Once calibrated and started, you can leave this device running in the background and log in to Autodarts at play.autodarts.io from any mobile, tablet, laptop, etc - it doesn't have to be the same device that is connected to the cameras. You can use this to connect to your board and play!

Getting a more professional set up

It's inevitable you'll end up wanting a more permanent solution than having a laptop close to your dartboard. Many Autodarts players use a wall mounted or hidden away thin client or raspberry pi to run the Autodarts client.

You can pick up a second hand thin client from eBay for less than £100. Personally I use a wall mounted (and hidden away) Lenovo M700, which I picked up for £65.

Wall Mounted Arms are better

We recommend joining the Autodarts discord, that place is the Autodarts bible and is filled with knowledgeable and experienced Autodarts users that are very willing to help, including the developers that helped to create Autodarts.

They will tell you on there that wall mounted give the best experience of Autodarts - and that is true. The stability can't be matched.

We designed wall mounted arms that connect to the Target Corona, Winmau Plasma and Mission Torus 270 light rings, as well as a universal version that is freestanding - although some light rings don't offer very good lighting and this can affect accuracy.

If you don't have one if the above light rings and want the best experience, we would recommend swapping to the Target Corona Vision or Winmau Plasma.

So if wall mounted is best - why do Dart3D do ring mounted?

Because we understand that you might not want to drill into your walls, especially when you've never even played Autodarts before! And you want an easy, good value set up.

So we designed and tested our mounts, tweaking along the way, until we got a product that we actually now use instead of the wall mounted versions. And they give up to 99% accuracy under correct conditions.
