
How To Get Perfect Accuracy On Autodarts - Full Setup Guide

If you're getting less than 99% accuracy and frustrating inconsistencies on Autodarts, the problem is probably your setup - not the system. With the right tweaks, you can achieve near-perfect accuracy.
Here’s everything you need to know to dial in your setup and get Autodarts working flawlessly.
1. Camera Setup: Angle, Placement & Focus Matter
Camera Angle: Aim for about cameras placed at 120 degrees around the board, and don’t place cameras directly over the 20 - offset them slightly to avoid blind spots or overlap.
Camera Orientation: On the Autodarts camera setup screen, check the preview - the dartboard should always appear at the bottom of the image. If not, rotate the camera until it does.
Focus: Adjust the lens focus ring until the board looks sharp. If it's blurry, tracking suffers. Don’t overtighten the lens, this can damage the thread.
A great tip for focus is to place a card or piece of paper with text wedged between the board and surround, on the far side opposite the camera. Use the text to focus the lens.
2. Darts and Dart Flight Choice Affects Tracking
Contrasting dart flights are crucial, avoid black or white flights. Bright colours are best that are different to the board segments.
Darts should be silver with no black on the barrel, as darker darts are harder for the system to detect accurately.
3. Avoid Anything That Moves in Camera View
Wires, string, or anything moving in the camera’s peripheral vision can throw off tracking.
Keep the camera’s field of view clean, mount cables behind or away from the frame.
4. Lighting & Lens Flare: A Common Hidden Issue
Lens flare is a real problem with cheaper camera units, look for rainbow effects or bright light spots in the camera feed.
Solution: Use a simple lens hood to block stray light.
Wall Mounted Setups can raise the light ring to avoid lens flare, but Ring Mounted solutions can suffer as the ring is closer to the board.
5. Choose the Right Cameras (It Makes a Huge Difference)
Best brands:
✅ GXIVision
✅ HBVCam - had overexposure problems in the past but now come with fixed firmware pre installed (and can be flashed to update firmware easily if not)
Avoid:
❌ Dexin - known to cause overexposure problems and cannot be resolved.
The OV9732 chipset cameras give the best results to value ratio, there are better cameras out there that are more expensive but don't offer much more in quality or accuracy to make it worthwhile.
6. Check FPS and Bandwidth Stability
All cameras should run at the same FPS (frames per second).
If you notice one camera dropping FPS (common if device bandwidth is stretched), lower the FPS for all cameras until they're stable.
Mismatched FPS causes inaccuracy.
7. Dartboard Choice Actually Matters
Some dartboard designs hurt accuracy:
❌ Target TOR - not supported.
❌ Blade 6 Triple Core - the laser-cut number ring vibrates, causing misreads.
Best option:
✅ Blade 6 Dual Core - widely regarded as one of the most accurate boards for Autodarts.
Tip: Any board with a sturdy, non-moving number ring is better.

In the Autodarts Board Manager, the Motion tab shows where the system thinks the dart hit.
Use it to spot calibration issues, blind spots, or cameras struggling to pick up darts.
